TwinBee that grew to be so greatly embraced in Japan but then didn't actually earn an American localization. It was a big deal in Japan when it first arrived - the game was ultimately supported by a cartoon show, some audio albums and a wave of other tie-in merchandise. Then there's a whole host of other characters, supporting heroes, villains and everything else. TwinBee has a twin bee, too, in his pink-colored, "female" counterpart WinBee - she and her pilot, Pastel, come under the command of Player 2. TwinBee is the name of the series, but also the name of the main character - a rotund, blue-bodied, cockpit-equipped robot with arms, legs and a classically anime-styled pilot named Light. A world populated by sentient, anthropomorphic, bee-shaped ships. PASTEL TWINBEE SERIESAnd it's also essentially a reboot of the whole franchise - there were a few titles in the arcade and on the 8-bit Famicom before this one, but this is the first TwinBee that was able to really realize the original aim for the series from an artistic point of view - being able to fly through a fully vibrant, anime-inspired world. It first appeared in Japanese arcades before being ported into this well-converted TurboGrafx-16 edition. There are a couple of examples of TwinBee titles making it to market here in America over the past few decades, but none you're likely to remember. But it's all business as usual for the TwinBee series, a franchise that's always been popular in Japan but, for whatever reason, never really made the leap to the United States. Different colors activate different upgrades. Then you shoot the bells to change their colors, and swoop up to collect them once the color you want has been shuffled to. You come across some clouds, you shoot the clouds, and the bells pop out.
